What is a coaching conversation?

The coaching conversation is typically constructed in a way that allows the client to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a safe and supportive environment. Here's a general framework that #coaches may use to structure a coaching conversation:

  1. Establishing rapport and building #trust: At the beginning of the coaching conversation, the coach will aim to establish rapport and build trust with the client. They may do this by asking open-ended questions, actively listening, and demonstrating empathy.

  2. Identifying the client's goals and aspirations: The coach will work with the client to identify their goals and aspirations. They may ask questions such as "What do you want to achieve?" or "What's important to you?"

  3. Exploring the client's current situation: The coach will encourage the client to explore their current situation and identify any obstacles or challenges that are preventing them from achieving their goals.

  4. Generating options and possibilities: The coach will work with the client to generate options and possibilities for achieving their goals. They may ask questions such as "What could you do differently?" or "What are some other options?"

  5. Developing a plan of action: The coach will help the client to develop a plan of action that will enable them to achieve their goals. They may ask questions such as "What steps will you take?" or "What support do you need?"

  6. Evaluating progress: The coach will help the client to evaluate their progress and identify any areas where they may need additional support or guidance.

Throughout the coaching conversation, the coach will use active listening, questioning, and reflection to encourage the client to explore their thoughts and feelings. The focus is on empowering the client to take ownership of their goals and to develop strategies that will enable them to achieve their desired outcomes.
